Fighting back

To revolt is a natural tendency of life. Even a worm turns against the foot that crushes it. In general, the vitality and relative dignity of an animal can be measured by the intensity of its instinct to revolt.

Here's hoping that the motley crew of merchant bankers ("Red Knights") can do to Trafford United FC what they did to the economy!

PS Big wins for the Lions AND the Superwhites? And I was there for both? Something bad is likely to happen to make the universe balance.

I don't know why, but somehow it just seems appropriate that that club in Streford should be owned by 'merchant bankers'. In an ideal world it would, of course, be owned by Barclays. (Cf the diaries of Kenneth Williams. This is what he would have called a comment on 'traditional' lines.)To all fellow Kenny fans who understand this post; Bring Back Round the Horne!

There is nothing so unbecoming as envy

Envy? When you are all complaining about what the Red Knights get up to when they are in charge, I'll remind you about that. (An ex-Red asked some very pertinent questions in tonight's MEN letters page. About what they'll do on prices etc. Doubt if he'll get many answers.)

Prices? Only vice-chancellors can afford to go these days.

That was 75,000 vice chancellors for Fulham on Sunday.

It must be all that education.

I long had a suspicion that there was no such thing as football hooliganism, that it simply consisted of marauding gangs of sociologists doing participant observation. Maybe it is the same thing.
