So is that a cement mixer or a seventeenth century Turkish siege mortar lurking behind the wall?

Whatever it is it does look impressive.

A pithari - a terracotta urn for storing olive oil. The house was an olive press until the 1950's. Some pitharia and the old wheel from the press were left here from the old days. The wheel is now embedded in the garden wall. The local ironmonger measured up for stands for the pitharia some years ago but has never got around to making them - more interested in wine making and bee keeping these days. Having tasted his wine sweetened with honey, I would say he has a point.

Ah - so it is a sort of amphora.

Very cool.
